Akindele Olupelumi Adebiyi

Dr. Adebiyi is a Public Health Physician and Clinical Epidemiologist with vast experience in policy and practice-relevant research. His vision is to “attain a position in life where his most persistent concerns for the vulnerable can be turned to viable options”. Dr. Adebiyi has contributed to policy formulation and development of many health system interventions at national, and international levels. He contributed to formulating the policy on Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) and its subsequent reviews, the National Pandemic Preparedness Plan of 2010 and the Nigerian Tobacco Control Act, 2015. He has also served in various capacities as the Chairman of the Preparedness working group of the Joint External Evaluation of International Health Regulation Capacity in Nigeria (2017), member of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force (2020 to date), and Technical Consultant to the Oyo State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, etc. Dr. Adebiyi is very versatile in research and has over 100 publications attributed to him which include articles in peer-review journals, chapters in books, technical reports, and monographs. His area of research emphasis is tobacco control and cancer prevention especially prostate cancer. As a methodologist, he actively teaches and researches bias and approaches to reducing it in epidemiological studies. He is a member of the “Men of African Descent Cancer of the Prostate (MADCaP) consortium, a multi-country research network. Dr. Adebiyi is deeply committed to building the research capacity of early career researchers and served as the pioneer Coordinator of the College of Medicine, Research, and Innovation Management (CRIM) unit from 2014 to 2021. Currently, he is a member of the Society for Medical Decision Making and the President-Elect of the International Epidemiological Association as well as the IEA/WHO Liaison.
