Dr. Thierry Nyatanyi currently serves as the Senior Team Lead for the Global Health Security Agenda program with USAID in Cote d’Ivoire, since August 2020. With more than 15 years of technical and leadership experience for overseeing multi-sectoral, complex portfolios to support the full range of investments related to epidemic preparedness and response, he worked prior as the Senior Advisor for COVID-19 response at the Africa CDC and the Technical Lead for Africa with the USAID-One Health Workforce Project under the Emerging Pandemic Threats Program (EPT-2). Dr. Thierry previously served as the Director and Division Manager for Epidemic Surveillance and Response at the Ministry of Health in Rwanda. In that capacity, he was responsible for implementing and evaluating programs meant to prevent and rapidly respond to epidemic-prone diseases threats emerging and re-emerging at the human-animal-ecosystem interface. In this role, he served as the chairperson of the national One Health platform. He concurrently served as the coordinator for the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FETP) and the WHO-International Health Regulations (IHR) lead focal person. He received an MD/M.P.H from the University of Rwanda, and a MMSc-GHD from Harvard Medical School.
